  • 1:45 PM
  • Full details to follow

The guide who took us round the Ile de la Cité will lead a walk through the 16th arrondissement, when she will tell us more about the Art Nouveau artistic movement. Hector Guimard (1867-1942) was one of the most famous architects of the first half of the 20th

century, and is particularly remembered for designing the "retro" metro- station entrances in Paris. He also influenced the architecture of many buildings, a lot of which are to be found in the 16th arrondissement in areas that are off the usual tourist routes.

He is famous for experimenting in space and volume, for harmoniously uniting practical function with linear design, and suggesting plants and organic matter in his designs, while remaining abstract.
