November Walk-SOME OF THE LESS KNOWN PASSAGES OF PARIS

  • 20 Nov 2019
  • 2:30 PM

Though the first passage on our walk is in fact quite well known (Passage Brady, sometimes known as “Little India”), many of the others will, I think, be new to you. The passages, at the height of popularity in the18th century, gradually fell from favour with the arrival of the large department stores. Though certain have maintained some of their former glory, others have unfortunately become a little dilapidated - the Passage du Prado where Parisians gathered to see the then popular panoramas and the Passage du Caire built on the request of Napoleon when he returned from his Egyptian campaign. Our walk will end at the Passage du Grand Cerf near Les Halles. The passage was originally a small alley leading to the Hotel du Grand Cerf where coaches left for the east of France.
